first_img View post tag: Naval View post tag: Sydney Training & Education Share this article Sydney was abuzz on Saturday, 13 July with the arrival of United States Navy, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) docking at Garden Island, Sydney for a port visit.The command ship of the U.S. Navy 7th Fleet, the Blue Ridge with her 52 officers and 790 enlisted personnel, arrived in Sydney ahead of her scheduled participation in the biannual US Australia joint military exercise, TALISMAN SABER 2013.While in town, US 7th Fleet personnel will undertake a number of community relations events with area schools and hospitals.Commander of the U.S. 7th Fleet, Vice Admiral Scott Swift said the visit shows the Australian and U.S alliance remains strong.“The Australian/U.S. alliance is as strong as ever and remains one of the most important in the world. I am encouraged by what our nations accomplish together every day. USCG Cutter Terrapin Returns from Counter Drug Patrol View post tag: americas Terrapin crewmembers conducted a 42-day patrol totaling nearly 600 operational hours, completing 20 recreational safety boardings and interrupting the illegal flow of narcotics into the U.S.While working jointly with Customs and Border Protection and the Mexican navy to stem the flow of illegal drugs entering the U.S., a Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine Multi-role Enforcement Aircraft crew detected a suspicious boat Aug. 21 and the Terrapin crew was diverted to intercept.The Terrapin’s crew stopped the panga and detained the suspected smugglers who claimed Mexican nationality and discovered an estimated 90 bales of marijuana weighing nearly 2,000 pounds. The suspects, vessel and marijuana were turned over to the Mexican navy.The crew primarily serves the mariners of Washington’s western coastline by patrolling the waters, responding to search and rescue missions, protecting our borders, enforcing state and federal fisheries regulations and conducting safety and security exams.The Terrapin is an 87-foot coastal patrol boat with a crew of 12.
