first_imgPAUL Wellens says he is expecting another great derby game when Saints take on Warrington Wolves at the Magic Weekend. As a Manchester City season ticket holder he’s regularly at the venue and has played for both his club and country on the surface.“It is a fantastic stadium to play in,” he said. “It will be a great game. Warrington have quality personnel and we always have great battles with them. Our last win at the Halliwell Jones was a fantastic game and I am sure it will be no different at the weekend. We are looking to build on our win at Headingley and Warrington are looking to come back from their defeat at home to Hull.”Saints captain admits the last few weeks have been tough – but Monday’s result shows that there is more than enough quality in the squad.“I have gone through periods in the past when we have lost games and I’ve been really despondent and down, but for some reason during this period I have been very calm and focussed and confident that things will turn out for the better. I remain confident that we are heading in the right direction.“It’s hard as I understand the fans want to watch their team play well and win. I am a Saints fan too as are my family. Maybe we have to have some short term pain and heartache to get back to success in the long term and go back to Grand Finals and Challenge Cups.“The real test of a team, of a club and its supporters is how you stick together when things aren’t going so well. If we can come through periods like this together we can certainly enjoy the good times.”He continued: “It’s important for us to work on the short term and build some momentum. If we focus on performing the results will take care of themselves and we will start climbing the ladder.”last_img read more
