first_imgGreek powerlifting champion Pavlos Mamalos has won the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting World Cup in Kuala Lumpur.The victory makes him the favorite for the 2016 Paralympic Games this September in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, after the Olympic Games finish.Mamalos was so strong he faced little competition in the 107-kilogram (236 pounds) category, and raised 235 kilos (518 pounds) over two lifts to beat Malaysian Mohd Shamil Md Saad, by 39 kilos, some 86 pounds.Mamalos won silver in Beijing 2008 and bronze in London 2012 and is hoping to add gold to his achievements this year.Constantinos Dimou won silver in the over-107 kilos category with lifts totaling 220 kilos, about 485 pounds behind South Korea’s Keun Bae Chun, who was five kilos, about 11 pounds, less than Mamalos in a lighter category.
