Dr. Kevin John Moroney has been appointed as Associate Professor in the Rev. Dr. H. Boone Porter Liturgics Chair. With the conclusion of this search, a full-time, residential Professor of Liturgics returns to the General faculty. Also, General Seminary welcomes home a loyal son, a member of the Class of 1992.Moroney has been teaching as an Affiliate Faculty in Liturgics at General since last fall. During that time, he taught the foundational liturgy class, as well as “Presiding at the Eucharist” and a liturgical practicum in the chapel. He has been particularly enthusiastic about the potential for the practicum to empower students to lead worship in our broad Anglican tradition. Also, over the last school year, Moroney has participated as a member of the GTS community, taking part in chapel and sharing meals in the refectory; and now, he and his family will move to the Close to become fully present in the community.“I am so pleased Professor Moroney will continue his ministry of teaching here next year. He now has a home here that enables him to include scholarship, student advising, and mentoring; with a full-time presence in our community. His leadership this past year has been tremendously felt in the chapel and I look forward to how that will continue to evolve over the next several years,” said the Very Rev. Kurt H. Dunkle, Dean and President. Dean Dunkle is also appointing Moroney as Director of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd.Moroney received his M.Div. from General Seminary in 1992 and his Ph.D. in Liturgy from Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy, Dublin, Ireland, in 2008. His doctoral dissertation was an assessment of the full revision of the Irish Prayer Book happening at that time. Moroney currently serves as Associate Rector at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, having moved there recently after concluding a long-time position as Rector of Christ Church Ithan, in Villanova, Pennsylvania. Moroney also served as Visiting Professor at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, and he continues to serve as Affiliated Professor of Liturgics at Nashotah House Seminary. He taught Liturgics at The Church of Ireland Theological College in Dublin from 2000-2005 and is the author of many published papers on liturgics and related fields.“General Seminary was my mother in ministry. I came here with a deep faith and a sense of call. General stretched me in the ways I needed to be stretched, and deepened and enriched me in areas that mean the world to me,” Moroney says of his time as a student at General. “I am honored and excited to join the long line of scholars who have made liturgical formation one of the hallmarks to life and learning at General Seminary. Serving as an Affiliate Professor this past year has given me a wonderful chance to reconnect with the Seminary, while establishing new relationships with students, faculty, and staff. I look forward to deepening those ties as I join the faculty of General full time, beginning this summer.” Youth Minister Lorton, VA Family Ministry Coordinator Baton Rouge, LA Remember Holy Land Christians on Jerusalem Sunday, June 20 American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to PrintFriendlyPrintFriendlyShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to EmailEmailShare to MoreAddThis Associate Rector for Family Ministries Anchorage, AK Curate (Associate & Priest-in-Charge) Traverse City, MI Episcopal Charities of the Diocese of New York Hires Reverend Kevin W. News agency abandons reporter to her fate as she receives threats in run-up to election

first_img RSF_en Nearly half of UN member countries have obstructed coronavirus coverage KosovoEurope – Central Asia Shala asked Sparkes if it was normal that two PDK members who are being investigated by EULEX on suspicion of corruption and murder should be running in next December’s parliamentary elections, clearly contravening European democratic standards. Sparkes acknowledged that it was not “good for Kosovo’s image.” News News November 17, 2010 – Updated on January 20, 2016 News agency abandons reporter to her fate as she receives threats in run-up to election “Ever since my intervention at the news conference and the publication of my article, I have been getting a lot of very humiliating, threatening and offensive SMS messages from PDK supporters,” Shala said in her written statement, which Reporters Without Borders received. “I am being very clearly warned about what I may write.” “We fully support Shala, who has been very strangely punished for professional conduct that constitutes the very basis of journalism and needs, more than ever, to be welcomed in Kosovo,” Reporters Without Borders added. “We urge the Kosovar media to show their support for her by raising the issues she highlighted as often as possible with the Kosovar and international authorities.” The article that Shala wrote after the news conference was quickly posted on the KosovaPress website but was suddenly removed a few hours later. Shala said the news agency’s management valuated her questions at the news conference were “unprofessional,” “stupid” and “had nothing to do with the election campaign.” She added there was no alternative for her but to leave such a working environment. Reporters Without Borders urges all of the many international bodies that have a presence in Pristina to express their support for Shala and to convey their concern to the Kosovar authorities. European Union special envoy Pieter Cornelis Feith cannot allow journalists to be threatened and sanctioned for covering EULEX’s activities in a professional manner and for doing investigative reporting that is extremely necessary in the newly declared country. Help by sharing this information Organisation Kosovar investigative journalist assaulted in Pristina This case raises serious concerns about the freedom that state and privately-owned media journalists will be allowed in their coverage of the campaign for the December elections. The PDK leadership and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci’s acting government must publicly express their support for Shala and disown the threats. An investigation must also be opened with the aim of identifying those responsible for the SMS messages and ensuring they are severely punished. Fall in Australian coal prices raises concerns about economics of Adani’s proposed Carmichael mine

first_imgFall in Australian coal prices raises concerns about economics of Adani’s proposed Carmichael mine FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPrint分享Reuters:A crash in Australian thermal coal prices is raising fresh questions about the viability of a controversial $4 billion coal mine just a week ahead of a national election in which climate change is a key issue.Final approval of the Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, owned by India’s Adani Enterprises, should come in “a matter of weeks, not months” following nearly a decade on the drawing board, the company’s mining chief executive, Lucas Dow, told Reuters last month. But a 40 percent slump in benchmark Australian thermal coal prices since mid-2018 to a two-year low last month, points to tight profit margins and questions as to whether the economics will support the launch of the mine as soon as next year.Adani has said it is aiming to start producing 10 million tonnes a year of coal from March 2020, but analysts say the target date is optimistic.“I think a lot of people are doubting as to whether it will see the light of day,” said Wood Mackenzie analyst Victor Tanevski in Sydney. Tanevski suggests benchmark Newcastle 6,000 grade coal would need to be close to $100 a tonne for the mine to break even. The 6,000 benchmark was quoted at $86.20 on Thursday.Analysts suggest the mine is unlikely to start commercial production until the middle of the next decade at the soonest, if at all. A profit margin of $8-$12 a tonne is half the averages of 2017 and 2018, highlighting how rapidly the market has turned since the Paris agreement on climate change.More: In a sunset industry, economics of Adani’s Australian coal mine questionedlast_img read more

Heisler: Kawhi Leonard is available, just maybe not to the Lakers

first_imgWhy would the Spurs trade the 26-year-old Leonard to their ancient rivals, the Lakers? It says here they won’t.• With a year left on his contract, the Spurs must sign off on anything Kawhi does this summer. With less to offer in trade than other teams, the Lakers need him to force a deal, which he might well try, and for the Spurs to accede, which is less likely.Playing one more season for the Spurs would give Leonard all the leverage – but he and the Spurs might be past that after Kawhi trashed his “selfless” image and bailed on the team.Waiting a year won’t work for the Lakers, who need a second star to persuade LeBron to come. If they can’t get Kawhi this summer, they might go back to their original dream package with Paul George and LeBron.• It’s one of Popovich’s cardinal rules not to help Western Conference rivals, much less one with the tradition and resources of the Lakers.Popovich almost never says a bad word about another team, but he went bonkers in 2008 when Memphis traded Pau Gasol to the post-Shaquille O’Neal Lakers, setting them up for three consecutive Finals runs and two titles.“What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension,” Popovich said at the time. “… I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I’d like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade.”• We’ll never know if Popovich might deal with the Lakers if all things are equal. All things aren’t.Several contenders – such as the Celtics, 76ers and Cavaliers – have more young players and/or high first-round picks to offer the Spurs. The Lakers have Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Julius Randle and Kyle Kuzma – all promising young players but none yet a star Popovich could build around. They don’t have their own first-round pick – now an unprotected No. 10 – which finally goes to Phladelphia (a pick the 76ers could, of course, offer the Spurs.) The Lakers’ No. 25 pick would mean little to San Antonio. And, of course, the Celtics, 76ers and Cavaliers are in the Eastern Conference, Popovich’s preferred destination for Leonard, if not Kawhi’s.The Clippers must be just as interested as the Lakers, but all they have is an aging roster and the No. 12 and 13 picks. (Drawing a top-three pick in the lottery could change things, but there’s just a 4.7 percent chance of that happening.)Of course, for Popovich, this is the nightmare scenario that he never imagined after the extraordinary run that saw a tiny market team win as many titles as the Lakers (five) from the Spurs’ first in 1999 to their last in 2014. Other teams expressed their admiration by hiring half the people who once sat next to Pop on the bench or worked in their front office. As opposed to the zany Lakers, who saw the Shaq-Kobe champions break themselves up, the Spurs ran on auto-pilot with Tim Duncan providing in-group leadership until his 2016 retirement. The summer before Duncan called it quits, the Spurs signed LaMarcus Aldridge, a gifted player but, as far as greatness, a flawed one, known for telling friends on other teams to get him over there as the weight of responsibility presses on his shoulders … as it did by his second season in San Antonio when he asked to be traded.“I was very candid with him,” Popovich said later. “I told him I would be happy to trade him. ‘You get me a talent like Kevin Durant and I will drive you to the airport. … Short of that, I’m your best buddy and you are here for another year and you ain’t going nowhere because for you talent-wise, we are not going to get what we want (in a trade) so let’s figure this thing out.’“And we did.”Related Articles It’s a sad day in San Antonio – and an exciting one for other teams, starting with the Lakers – with Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs looking like they’re past the point of no return. The Spurs trail the Warriors 3-0 in their first-round mismatch, one loss from the offseason with Kawhi nowhere in sight.Rather than sitting on the bench to lend his teammates support, he’s in New York with his new medical team … which has been no more successful in getting him over the mysterious thigh injury that kept him out for all but nine games this season. That cheering you hear is the parade cranking up in Lakerdom. Byron Scott, who is close to Magic Johnson, actually announced on ESPN, “I’m going to tell you something right now. LeBron (James) is coming to the Lakers along with Kawhi. We’re back in the Finals!” Unfortunately, as it turned out, Aldridge wasn’t the biggest problem they had.Indignity piles atop indignity. The Washington Post just ran a piece headlined, “Insulted pro-Trump Spurs fans feel forced to choose between their team and the president.”“I often curse Pop for doing what he did (criticizing Trump),” Bob Mulherin, a longtime fan told the Post. “He insulted more than half of the Spurs’ fan base and no sign whatsoever of an apology.”Of course, this is sports and all about winning … or what you have done for anyone recently … as opposed to politics. Popovich first criticized President Trump in the fall of 2016. It didn’t become an issue last season when the Spurs were still elite.Nothing is forever, not even the Spurs, the Spurs just learned.Mark Heisler has written an NBA column since 1991 and was honored with the Naismith Hall of Fame’s Curt Gowdy Award in 2006. His column is published weekly during the NBA season with the Southern California News Group. Reports dovetailing with that one swept the league:Kawhi, a Los Angeles guy who grew up in the Inland Empire, wants to come home.Kawhi, who has one year left on his contract, will force a trade to the Lakers.Of course, the teams can’t discuss it – especially the Lakers after incurring two tampering penalties this season, an NBA record, which could get them barred from bidding if they breathe wrong. That makes this the kind of story everyone loves best, with lots of star players on the move that can be molded to fit any need with no one dealing with the sticking point: Kristaps Porzingis ruled out as Clippers, Mavericks set for Game 5; Follow for game updates Video: What LeBron James said about Jacob Blake … ‘Black people in America are scared’ center_img For Lakers’ LeBron James, Jacob Blake’s shooting is bigger issue than a big Game 4 victory Clippers vs. Mavericks Game 5 playoff updates from NBA beat reporters Portland star Damian Lillard (knee) to miss Game 5 vs. Lakers Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more

Gold Mount vs. V-Mount: Which Is Your Best Choice?

first_imgWhat if You Can’t Decide? Now, what if you’re in a situation where you have V-Mount batteries for your LED lights and Gold Mount batteries for your cameras? For situations where you’re invested in both platforms, fortunately, there are battery adapter plates. With these adapter plates, you can easily attach your Gold Mount batteries to a Gold Mount-to-V-Mount adapter plate (or vice versa) and solve most battery mount issues. However, this method is less preferred, as it provides an additional fail point. How to ChooseUltimately, it comes down to your personal preference and which system works best for you and your workflow. Some filmmakers may like the security and availability of Gold Mounts in U.S. rental houses, while others may prefer the international versatility that comes with V-Mounts.In the end, either battery system is a great choice and will fill the needs of your job. Most importantly, they’ll help you tell and create your projects and stories.Cover image by Kryuchka Yaroslav.Looking more video gear reviews? Most batteries with enough capacity to power larger cinema cameras offer these two battery mounting choices. However, when you’re looking to purchase your own batteries and, essentially, invest in one of these mounting platforms, it becomes confusing which mount option you should purchase. For the sake of simplicity, it’s typically best to invest all your battery purchases into just one of these formats.Gold MountGold Mount, also known as AB (Anton Bauer) Mount, was created by Anton Bauer fifty years ago. This mount seems to be the battery mount of choice for cinema applications in the U.S. With a secure three gold-stud mounting solution, many regard the Gold Mount as the most secure way to keep your batteries in place while mounted to the camera. This is due, in part, by the fact that to dismount the battery, you have to slide it out from the battery plate sideways. In return, this makes an accidental dismount less likely to occur.Gold Mount batteries also seem to be the most popular option at rental houses in the U.S.V-MountOriginally developed by Sony, the V-Mount battery option is also wildly popular, proven to be a successful battery mounting solution. Just as it sounds, the battery mounts to the battery plate via a v-shaped locking mechanism.According to multiple online forums, many filmmakers express concerns on how secure these batteries are when mounting onto a camera system. This concern is due in part to the fact that these batteries dismount by sliding up. If you’re operating on your shoulder, it is fairly easy to bump the battery up while taking the camera off your shoulder.Personally, I’ve had one instance of a V-Mount battery popping off a battery plate during the middle of a shot. As a result, I lost the shot when the camera immediately powered down. However, many other filmmakers have used V-Mount batteries for years and reported no issues.last_img read more
