PM insists 19A helped Police in war on drugs

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the 19th Amendment helped the Police in its war on drugs.He said that the Police has been able to act independently without any political interference as a result of the 19th Amendment. Wickremesinghe noted that the 19th Amendment has been criticized these days but if not for the 19th Amendment the Police would not have been able to crackdown on drugs. The Prime Minister said this while speaking at an event in Bulathsinhala today. The largest ever heroin stock detected by the authorities in Sri Lankan history was seized in a car park in Colombo over the weekend.The Police said that 294.49 kg of heroin was seized in the car park in Kollupitiya by the Special Task Force (STF) and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).
