‘Emiliano Sala & pilot’s families know they are dead’

first_imgDavid Mearns, the director of Bluewater Recoveries and the man who was at the head of the renewed efforts to locate the plane carrying Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson , says the families of both the player and the pilot know they are dead.Mearns led the operation to find the aircraft, which disappeared off the radar near the Channel Islands on its voyage from Nantes, after a crowdfunding page raised well over the target to restart the search after initial investigations by authorities had been called off.The plane was found just hours after the search had recommenced, with video footage revealing one body on board the wreckage . With authorities having stated last week that chances of survival for either of the individuals were ‘extremely remote’, Mearns has now confirmed the priority is trying to recover the bodies.“What these families know at the moment is that both [Sala and Ibbotson] are dead and what they want is to recover their bodies,” Mearns said in an interview with Clarin .“The most important thing is the bodies. Recovering the bodies is the most important thing for both families. The plane is a different matter, that’s related only to determining the cause of the accident.”Means stated that he was no longer involved in the operation, with British authorities having taken over following the discovery of the wreckage , but did offer some insight into how the bodies would be recovered.“I’m not involved anymore. Once we found it, everything was in the hands of the Air Accidents Investigations Branch. They will investigate what caused the crash,” he said.“What I know is that they only have one body, that’s everything I know. They [AAIB] tried to recover the body during the night and I know they had some trouble.“If they are doing it now, they’re doing it with a robotic vehicle, operated remotely by a pilot and connected to the ship with a cable. It has cameras and microphones and has robotic arms.Emiliano Sala Nantes“The issue is where the body is; that is to say if it is free or if it’s stuck in the seats. They can recover the body in different ways: they could possibly use a hook or a rope. You could also potentially use a basket.“There are many ways of doing it. As far as I know, there are no divers.“The family will be very grateful for their efforts. Now, we’re praying for them to succeed.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.last_img read more

Georgia’s Loss Means There Are 4 Clear College Football Playoff Favorites

(Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)Georgia lost to LSU on Saturday, meaning the Bulldogs are no longer among the ranks of the unbeaten. As a result, it looks like there are now four teams that should be considered favorites when it comes to inclusion in the College Football Playoff. To be clear, there are a number of teams – including Georgia – that still control their own destiny the rest of the year. But after seven weeks, there are four teams that looks like odds-on favorites to play for it all in January. The first, obviously, is Alabama. Assuming the Crimson Tide handle Missouri on Saturday, the defending champs will be 7-0 with the No. 1 ranking in the country. Tua Tagovailoa has looked unstoppable. It’s hard to see Alabama losing before the Iron Bowl or the SEC title game. The second is Ohio State, which looked pedestrian against Minnesota on Saturday. The Buckeyes don’t look dominant right now, but it doesn’t matter, so long as they keep winning games. Ohio State is also 7-0 with wins over TCU and Penn State – and they’re easily the favorite in the Big Ten.The third is Clemson, despite the team’s close call against Syracuse two weeks ago. The Tigers are still the class of the ACC, and it’s hard to see them losing a game before the regular season is over. The fourth, and most controversial, is Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have big wins over Stanford, Virginia Tech and Michigan and don’t play an incredibly difficult schedule the rest of the way. The main issue for the Irish? They probably need to go 12-0 to get in. Notre Dame isn’t in a conference and therefore doesn’t have the opportunity to win a league title game.Other contenders include West Virginia, Georgia, Washington, Penn State, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, LSU and Florida.Georgia has to win the SEC title to get in the playoff. No other way now. Don’t have a Notre Dame win this year to help the resumé https://t.co/hK6ELRg7up— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) October 13, 2018There’s a lot of football to be played, but it’s safe to say that if those four teams win out, they’ll all meet in the playoff. It’d be a great event.last_img read more
