For the first time, the competition will be played in a two tier format consisting of the zone conference league and the national league competition.The 12 teams will play round robin matches for ten weeks in the Southern Conference and Northern Conference.The Southern Conference comprises clubs from the Southern region and Northern Conference comprises of Momase, New Guinea Islands and Highlands regions.Teams in the Southern Conference are Hekari United FC, Rapatona FC, Erema FC, PS Huawei FC, Port FC Moresby and Welgris FC.Teams in the Northern Conference are champions Lae City Dwellers, Madang Fox FC, Goroka FC, Besta United FC, Gigira Laitepo FC and Admiralty FC.Following the pool matches, the top two teams in each conference will come together to challenge in the national league competition to determine the grand final play off.NSL board chairman Isaac Lupari said the two tier competition will cut down on travel expenses for the franchises.Lupari urged teams to pay the nomination fee of K40,000 by 30 October and K35 for player registration.He confirmed that negotiations are underway with the PNG Sports Federation to host matches at Bisini soccer grounds and Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.Other venues are the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae, National Sports Institute in Goroka and Laiwaden Oval in Madang.
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 16 (PTI) Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, who co-owns Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters FC, today said he has an “incredible team” and looked forward to it playing its special brand of football. Unveiling the teams jersey for the second edition of the Hero Indian Super League starting next month in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here, Tendulkar said: “This time we have an incredible team. We have players from different countries of the world, different cultures, different languages. Lot of different things have come together.” “We keenly look forward to the team playing their special brand of football,” he said, introducing the team. Referring to the last season, in which the team finished runners-up, he said it “slowly, slowly gathered momentum” when the matches progressed and ended up winning hearts of all across the country. “We, Kerala Blasters have complete faith and confidence that we will be able to fill any stadiums that we play in the country,” he said. Besides introducing the team, Tendulkar also introduced the teams main sponsors Muthoot Pappachan Group. Tendulkar thanked the Muthoot Pappachan Group for continuing their support to Kerala Blasters and also the state government for its backing. The team would host NorthEast United at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Kochi in their first match on October 6. Speaking on the occasion, Chandy extended full support to the team.
