Everton chief Moshiri adamant new stadium will be builtby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveEverton chief Farhad Moshiri is determined for their new stadium to be built.Planning permission is set to be submitted in the second half of this year, with the first ‘spade in the ground’ anticipated in early 2020.After a number of false dawns over previous projects Moshiri is adamant the stadium will be built.”It has nothing to do with my vision, it is a necessity. That must be understood – we don’t have a choice, we don’t have a Plan B or a Plan C,” he said at their AGM.”Very much like Arsenal and Tottenham that had to build a stadium – they were not given stadiums like West Ham or Manchester City.”We have a lot of experience so I think we will complete this stadium, be sure that will happen. And I will throw as much money as needed.”Private markets will provide £350m, naming rights will give us some more and we maybe have an equity gap of £100m.”I think this club, under the management of Marcel and leadership of Denise (Barrett-Baxendale, the club’s chief executive) is sufficiently robust to see the project through. It is no luxury, we have to get it done.”If we want to have a big club we need a modern stadium and we will get it.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

Twitter/@NickJuskewycz There were plenty of interesting possible upsets on the college football slate today, but we didn’t tab Jacksonville State over Auburn as one of them. However, the Gamecocks, who went 10-2 in FCS play last year, are half way to a stunning win at Jordan-Hare Stadium. They lead the Tigers 10-6 at halftime.Auburn and Jacksonville State traded field goals early on, but the Gamecocks’ quarterback Eli Jenkins threw an impressive touchdown pass to Josh Barge to take the lead in the second quarter.Jacksonville State currently leads 6th ranked #Auburn 10-6, late in the second quarter. #JSUvsAUB pic.twitter.com/B50kBpQDXD— CFB Nation (@UofCFB) September 12, 2015There is plenty of time life, but Auburn fans have to be concerned with how the team has come out against what should be an overmatched opponent.
Will SmithA surveillance video from a New Orleans’ restaurant appears to show Will Smith in a possible hit-and-run with his alleged killer before the former Ohio State star’s death on Saturday night. Smith, 34, was shot to death in the Lower Garden District of the city. It had been reported that Smith was involved in a road-rage incident that led to him getting shot multiple times. A man has been arrested for the killing. The video shows a Mercedes SUV bumping the rear end of a Hummer near the intersection of Magazine Street and St. Andrew Street, a location about two blocks from where Cardell Hayes allegedly killed Smith. Smith was driving a Mercedes G63 SUV on Saturday night, while Hayes was driving a Hummer H2.Here’s the video. Hayes’ attorney said his client was involved in a hit-and-run. “Someone hit him,” John Fuller said. “The person failed to pull over. My client trailed behind this person in an effort to get their license plate number. My client also called 911.”Hayes was arrested on Sunday on a second-degree murder charge.
Manchester United made it two wins from two under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they saw off Huddersfield Town 3-1 on Wednesday.Goals in each half from Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba sealed a happy return to Old Trafford for Solskjaer, who received a rapturous reception before kick-off.The victory, which followed a 5-1 thrashing of Cardiff City in their first match since Jose Mourinho’s departure, means the Red Devils are back to within five points of the top four having played a game more than Arsenal and Chelsea. Juan Mata danced his way into the penalty area and found Ander Herrera, who teed up Pogba to sweep home first time.Pogba added gloss to the scoreline and a super personal display with 12 minutes to go, collecting Jesse Lingard’s pass and bending a sublime low strike past Jonas Lossl from 25 yards out, making Jorgensen’s late tap-in mere consolation. What does it mean? United building momentum under SolskjaerThis was not as slick a performance as United produced at Cardiff, but they largely kept Huddersfield under control and certainly played the majority of the match on the front foot.Back-to-back wins under Solskjaer will only help to boost morale after those tough final few months under Mourinho, and Arsenal and Chelsea will play later on Wednesday knowing that anything but a win will give United hope in their quest to catch the top four.As for Huddersfield, who have lost 13 of their 19 league games this season, their chances of survival are looking increasingly slim.Pogba full of smiles againIn a week in which he released his only emoji app, Pogba put in a performance of undeniable joy. His goals were expertly taken, but his all-round impact was best summed up when he won back possession near his own penalty area and fired a pinpoint 70-yard pass to Marcus Rashford.4 – Paul Pogba has been involved in four goals in two Premier League games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (2 goals, 2 assists), the same total he had registered in his last 12 games under Jose Mourinho (1 goal, 3 assists). David Mearns, the director of Bluewater Recoveries and the man who was at the head of the renewed efforts to locate the plane carrying Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson , says the families of both the player and the pilot know they are dead.Mearns led the operation to find the aircraft, which disappeared off the radar near the Channel Islands on its voyage from Nantes, after a crowdfunding page raised well over the target to restart the search after initial investigations by authorities had been called off.The plane was found just hours after the search had recommenced, with video footage revealing one body on board the wreckage . With authorities having stated last week that chances of survival for either of the individuals were ‘extremely remote’, Mearns has now confirmed the priority is trying to recover the bodies.“What these families know at the moment is that both [Sala and Ibbotson] are dead and what they want is to recover their bodies,” Mearns said in an interview with Clarin .“The most important thing is the bodies. Recovering the bodies is the most important thing for both families. The plane is a different matter, that’s related only to determining the cause of the accident.”Means stated that he was no longer involved in the operation, with British authorities having taken over following the discovery of the wreckage , but did offer some insight into how the bodies would be recovered.“I’m not involved anymore. Once we found it, everything was in the hands of the Air Accidents Investigations Branch. They will investigate what caused the crash,” he said.“What I know is that they only have one body, that’s everything I know. They [AAIB] tried to recover the body during the night and I know they had some trouble.“If they are doing it now, they’re doing it with a robotic vehicle, operated remotely by a pilot and connected to the ship with a cable. It has cameras and microphones and has robotic arms.“The issue is where the body is; that is to say if it is free or if it’s stuck in the seats. They can recover the body in different ways: they could possibly use a hook or a rope. You could also potentially use a basket.“There are many ways of doing it. As far as I know, there are no divers.“The family will be very grateful for their efforts. Now, we’re praying for them to succeed.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.
The new Tim Tebow Heisman commercial is amazing. Watch it below.Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow, who has been in the news recently for his attempt to play baseball professionally, is the new star of a Nissan ‘Heisman House’ commercial that is sure to make the rounds. In the clip, Tebow and fellow former Florida signal-caller Danny Wuerffel are the stars of a music video that is dedicated to the Gators. It’s eventually revealed that Tebow is fast asleep in his bed at the ‘Heisman House’ – he’s dreaming.Tebow was also part of another Nissan ‘Heisman House’ commercial that was released yesterday. In that one, which is focused on former Alabama running back Derrick Henry, Tebow is lifting weights with one arm.Tebow shared the new video with his followers on social media on Thursday. In Tebow’s illustrious college career, he helped Florida win two national titles. In four seasons, he threw for 9,286 yards and 88 touchdowns against just 15 interceptions. He also rushed for 57 scores.Tebow won the 2007 Heisman Trophy in a close race over Arkansas running back Darren McFadden. The rest of the top ten featured Hawaii’s Colt Brennan, Missouri’s Chase Daniel, Oregon’s Dennis Dixon, West Virginia’s Pat White, Boston College’s Matt Ryan, UCF’s Kevin Smith, LSU’s Glenn Dorsey and Virginia’s Chris Long.Tebow’s NFL career was not quite as successful, but he did help the Denver Broncos win a playoff game back during the 2011 season. He signed with the New York Jets in 2012 but never got another shot at being a starter. In his there years as a pro, he threw for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He started 14 of his 34 games. In addition to trying his hand at baseball, Tebow is a college football analyst for the SEC Network. It’s unclear whether he’ll have to give that up if he signs with a team.
Oklahoma’s head football coach, Lincoln Riley, made a surprising comment about his quarterback, Kyler Murray, earlier this week.Murray, a top 10 pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, is believed to be playing his final season of football. He’ll suit up for the Sooners this fall and then head off to the minor leagues.Riley, though, said he wasn’t sure if the 2018 season would be his last one with the Sooners. He was asked how he’s going to handle this being Murray’s final season.“Well, I’m not gonna really … decide how I want to handle that,” Riley said. “We’ll see if it’s his final year. That hasn’t really been determined yet. I’m not worried about it if it is or if it isn’t. That’s gonna have no impact on this year.“My hope through this whole thing is that Kyler is gonna be able to do what he wants to do. If he wants to go play baseball after this year, then we’ll wish him well and be happy for him. But the ball’s gonna be in his court, which is where it should be.”Murray’s agent has since responded to this idea.“Kyler’s baseball career has a very defined path which includes playing football at OU for only the 2018 season,” Boras told The Athletic.Murray was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Oakland A’s. If he ends up playing football for more than one season, that would be major news to them.

TALLAHASSEE, FL – OCTOBER 7: Doak S. Campbell Stadium during the first half of an NCAA football game at Doak S. Campbell Stadium on October 7, 2017 in Tallahassee, Florida. (Photo by Butch Dill/Getty Images)It has been a miserable start to the season for Florida State. The Seminoles’ nightmare September got even worse today with injury news regarding running back Khalan Laborn.Laborn, a former five-star recruit, injured his knee in the win over Samford on Sept. 8. He had surgery last week, and originally, it was thought he might be able to return at some point this fall. However, that won’t be the case. FSU head coach Willie Taggart announced tonight that Laborn is out for the season.Laborn dislocated his kneecap on the kick return when he got injured, and apparently the injury was worse than it appeared at first.Willie Taggart updates status of Khalan Laborn to say that he’s out for the season. He had surgery last Friday and they found out injury was more severe than anticipated.— Curt Weiler (@CurtMWeiler) September 17, 2018An explosive athlete, Laborn was a five-star prospect in the 2017 class. He redshirted last season, but was expected to contribute heavily this year.In his lone offensive touch of the season, Laborn turned a short reception against Virginia Tech into a 37-yard gain. He also returned three kicks for 64 yards. You couldn’t have drawn up a worse beginning of the season for Florida State. There is already a GoFundMe to replace Willie Taggart, who is in his first season in Tallahassee. The Seminoles will look to get back in the win column when they host Northern Illinois this Saturday.
ATHENS, GA – SEPTEMBER 29: DAndre Swift #7 of the Georgia Bulldogs carries the ball against the Tennessee Volunteers on September 29, 2018 at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)Georgia lost to LSU on Saturday, meaning the Bulldogs are no longer among the ranks of the unbeaten. As a result, it looks like there are now four teams that should be considered favorites when it comes to inclusion in the College Football Playoff. To be clear, there are a number of teams – including Georgia – that still control their own destiny the rest of the year. But after seven weeks, there are four teams that looks like odds-on favorites to play for it all in January. The first, obviously, is Alabama. Assuming the Crimson Tide handle Missouri on Saturday, the defending champs will be 7-0 with the No. 1 ranking in the country. Tua Tagovailoa has looked unstoppable. It’s hard to see Alabama losing before the Iron Bowl or the SEC title game. The second is Ohio State, which looked pedestrian against Minnesota on Saturday. The Buckeyes don’t look dominant right now, but it doesn’t matter, so long as they keep winning games. Ohio State is also 7-0 with wins over TCU and Penn State – and they’re easily the favorite in the Big Ten.The third is Clemson, despite the team’s close call against Syracuse two weeks ago. The Tigers are still the class of the ACC, and it’s hard to see them losing a game before the regular season is over. The fourth, and most controversial, is Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have big wins over Stanford, Virginia Tech and Michigan and don’t play an incredibly difficult schedule the rest of the way. The main issue for the Irish? They probably need to go 12-0 to get in. Notre Dame isn’t in a conference and therefore doesn’t have the opportunity to win a league title game.Other contenders include West Virginia, Georgia, Washington, Penn State, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, LSU and Florida.Georgia has to win the SEC title to get in the playoff. No other way now. Don’t have a Notre Dame win this year to help the resumé https://t.co/hK6ELRg7up— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) October 13, 2018There’s a lot of football to be played, but it’s safe to say that if those four teams win out, they’ll all meet in the playoff. It’d be a great event.

(Photo by Leon Halip/Getty Images)Michigan’s football program is currently in the middle of Jim Harbaugh’s best season in Ann Arbor, but the Wolverines have suffered a loss tonight.Drew Singleton, a four-star sophomore linebacker, has opted to transfer out of the program.247Sports has confirmed news of the transfer with a Michigan spokesman. From the report:247Sports confirmed with Michigan spokesman Dave Ablauf on Wednesday afternoon that second-year linebacker Drew Singleton has asked for and received a release from the program.Singleton, a Paramus (NJ) Catholic native, was once a Top100 recruit who committed to Michigan over a plethora of programs back in the 2017 recruiting cycle. He injured his knee his senior year at Paramus Catholic, but had worked his way back to full health this season and saw considerable time on special teams early on in the year. The former four-star’s transfer marks the fourth player to depart Michigan’s 2017 recruiting cycle, joining Corey Malone-Hatcher, Ja’Raymond Hall and Deron Irving-Bey.Singleton was ranked the No. 5 OLB and No. 79 overall recruit by 247Sports’ Composite Rankings coming out of high school in 2017.Michigan is set to play Michigan State on Saturday.
LSU football already faced an uphill battle against Alabama on Nov. 3, when both teams return from bye. After Saturday’s game, the Tigers will also be without star linebacker Devin White to start the game.White, one of the top players on a really dangerous LSU defense, was hit was an abysmal targeting call during the Tigers’ win over Mississippi State last weekend. As a result, he was ejected from the game, and will not miss the first half against Alabama.Targeting calls are often controversial, but you can usually see where the decision was made. On this one, however, it looks pretty clear that White did not lead with his helmet in a dangerous manner in hitting Nick Fitzgerald.#LSU LB Devin White will miss the 1st half of the #Alabama game for this targeting penalty: ? pic.twitter.com/TDqZQlmFsU— ESPN NOLA ? 100.3 FM (@ESPNRadioNOLA) October 21, 2018The SEC has already decided to uphold the suspension. That hasn’t stopped LSU fans from doing whatever they can think of to try and exert pressure on the league.A group of LSU football fans have already raised thousands of dollars to put up a “Free Devin White” billboard near the SEC’s offices in Birmingham, Ala.The cost of the billboard was far exceeded, so the rest of the donations are going to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.BOOM!All credit goes to Smalls on @TigerDroppings. Thanks to his efforts, the #FreeDevinWhite campaign raised over $6200, as of 3pm. Excess funds will go to the LSU Vet School Equine department. That donation currently sits at close to $2,500. pic.twitter.com/EsN9YMjxrl— Bradford (@LSUbradford) October 23, 2018Since the SEC has already come down with a decision, it doesn’t sound like there’s much hope for this to be reversed, but you can’t really blame Tiger fans for trying, given the absurdity of the call and the magnitude of the game against Alabama. The Tigers and Crimson Tide are set to kick-off at 8:00 p.m. on Nov. 3 in Baton Rouge. Alabama will be a heavy favorite in that one, with or without White on the field in the first half. It would be nice to see both teams with their full compliment of playmakers, though.

(Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images)The NFL Combine is often thought of as an event meant to allow athletes to showcase their value ahead of the draft. Unfortunately – it works in reverse too. Some players very much hurt themselves with poor performances.Former Georgia star running back Elijah Holyfield had a tough Friday. Holyfield, who was considered one of the best tailbacks in the class heading into the event, posted slow 40-yard-dash times and dropped a key pass during a drill with the quarterbacks.Holyfield’s times were 4.79 seconds and 4.81 seconds – good for second-worst among his peers. Some are now wondering if he’s even going to be drafted at all.Ian Kenyon of Bleacher Report suggested that Holyfield is now likely a “late day three” player or an undrafted free agent. scorecard commentary MS Dhoni slams Chennai pitch again: Don’t want to play on wickets like theseChennai Super Kings have won all four of their home games at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Indian Premier League 2019 but captain MS Dhoni isn’t impressed with the sluggish nature of wicket on offer. advertisement No data available! view more view less Akshay Ramesh ChennaiApril 10, 2019UPDATED: April 10, 2019 10:45 IST Chennai Super Kings are on top of the IPL 2019 points with five wins from six matches ( Courtesy by BCCI)HIGHLIGHTSChennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets on TuesdayKolkata Knight Riders batsmen struggled on a sluggish Chennai pitch and were bowled out for 108Chennai moved to the top of IPL 2019 points table after their fourth straight win at homeChennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni on Tuesday expressed his disappointment at the pitch conditions in MA Chidambaram Stadium despite the defending champions winning all their four matches at home in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019.Chennai Super Kings clinched a comfortable seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders to seal the top spot of the eight-team IPL 2019 table. KKR struggled to get going on a sluggish pitch wherein batsmen were finding it difficult to put bat to ball. Andre Russell though managed to work his way to a half-century helping KKR go past the 100-run mark in the 20th over of the innings. In reply, Chennai Super Kings never even got to the fourth gear while batting but still managed to get home in 17.2 overs.Shedding light on how difficult it has been for batsmen in Chepauk this year, Dhoni said: “I don’t think we want to be playing on these tracks. It becomes too low scoring. It becomes slightly difficult for our batsmen as well. After losing (Dwayne) Bravo, it is slightly difficult for us to get the combination right.”We have been cribbing about the track but we have ended up winning the game.”Notably, Dhoni had slammed the pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after the IPL 2019 opener wherein Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore were bowled out for just 70 runs. Even Kohli had expressed his disappointment at the rank turner that was on offer during the first match of the season.Chennai Super Kings spinners, including veterans Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir, have relished bowling on this wicket. The seasoned campaigners were at it again on Tuesday as they picked up four wickets between them, conceding just 36 runs in 8 overs.advertisementMeanwhile, young fast bowler Deepak Chahar won the Man of the Match award for his match-winning spell of 4 for 20. While Chahar had been completing his four-over quota inside the powerplay, unavailability of West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo due to an injury forced Chennai Super Kings to give the right-arm pacer overs at the death.Chahar responded well on Tuesday and even went on keep the big-hitting Andre Russell quiet in the 19th over of KKR’s innings.”I think I knew we are going to play a lot of games at Chennai. So, I worked on my slower ball and yorkers. I spend a lot of time in the dressing room with MS while playing Table Tennis and I have got to learn a lot from him. With Bravo injured, I have got opportunity to bowl at the death,” Chahar said. Also Read | Tahir, Harbhajan maturing like fine wine: Dhoni after CSK outclass KKR in ChennaiAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
